My Classroom Philosophy

I believe, to be effective, a teacher must have a philosophy of teaching.
The responsibility of a teacher is to maintain a structured class with a set of rules and expectations, and also the responsibility to teach all students. Every learning style of the students should be explored in order to accommodate each individual. The teacher is to be committed and caring to the individualized student and support them in their learning. Along with this the teacher must respect each student as an individual using this assessment to further his/her skills as a competent teacher. In this the teacher must realize that each student is different and therefore must cater to each individuals needs as a student and person.
In order to achieve all of these responsibilities the teacher must be up-to-date in his/her skills with the 21st Century such as; technology, language, and the basics with students and the environment that they live within. The teacher must continue learning by taking education classes to further his/her knowledge about students and other issues. The teacher must also learn how to identify with the student’s parents to continue or start a good relationship between the school, teacher and parent.
In order for the teacher to know if the students are learning the teacher is to create work in which the student can be assessed and evaluated. The teacher must create tests which help in critical thinking, problem solving, decision making, and overall content in which the class is learning. The teacher should create ways of knowing that the individual student is learning to his/her own capabilities.
The teacher must also create an environment where the student is comfortable and confident in learning and being his/her selves. In this environment the teacher also has to maintain a happy, safe and disciplined area. To help with this the teacher should create a system of positive reinforcement and charts where discipline and behavior can be kept in check. These rules for discipline and behavior should be clearly posted and used in order to keep a well maintained classroom.
I believe that the teachers have the responsibility of teaching and caring for their students. Some of the students may not have a proper home and environment in which they live. Upon their arrival at school they should have the proper environment to live in and learn in provided by the school and teacher. These are God’s children and each one is made in his image. It is our job as teachers to care and cater for God’s children.
